Rain on the garden

Why is it that copious amounts of watering simply does not have the same affect on the garden as a little rain??

    I know.

    Are there nutrients in the rain perhaps? Or does it go in deeper?

    Proabaly a combination of the two, plus the added benefit of no sun drying everything out...
